Statement by Ruben K. Zamora:
Ruben K. Zamora holds a B.A. degree in Business Management and an M.A.
degree in Education. He is a complete newcomer to the political arena.
As he states: "I am not a politician, and this is not my race for
Congress. This campaign is for the citizens of the fourteenth district of
Illinois. We need to reclaim our democracy and our nation from corporate
interests and those who uphold those interests. We need representatives
who will stand up for our rights and the issues that affect us in our
daily lives."
One of Ruben's priorities will be to create good living-wage jobs in
both rural and urban areas. One of the ways he will do this is by
opposing trade agreements such as NAFTA, the WTO, and the FTAA. These
trade agreements encourage wholesale outsourcing of jobs, contribute to
lowering wages, reduce or eliminate small business and farm profits, and
offer no human rights or environmental protections. Because of the way
these agreements are structured their flaws are essentially unfixable.
Therefore the best option is to negotiate new bilateral trade agreements
that place worker and human rights foremost, provide environmental
safeguards as conditions of trade, and do not have the ability to
supercede national and local laws.
Ruben joins with many health care workers in support of a single-payer
universal health care plan. This is because many studies have shown
conclusively that Americans are already paying for, but are just not
getting, universal health care. What we have in place is health care for
profit, and what we need is health care for people.
Ruben is deeply concerned with the situation in Iraq and believes that
we must support our troops, and our country, by bringing the troops
home. He believes that our continuing occupation unnecessarily endangers
our troops, adds to the burgeoning deficit, robs resources from national
priorities, estranges us from traditional allies around the world, and
threatens the security of our nation.
As a congressman, Ruben will work to protect and defend the rights of
every American no matter his or her race, religion, gender, or sexual
orientation.

Statement by David Gill:
Dr. David Gill is a 44-year-old emergency room physician from Clinton,
Illinois. He is a first-time political candidate, motivated by his desire
to see that America joins the many other developed countries that provide
health to all their citizens. He has seen firsthand the problems wrought
by our current system and the failure of a patchwork approach to fix what
is wrong. Dr. Gill believes that a first-class, universal, single-payer
health care system is the best way to achieve this goal.
Dr. Gill wants to grow the economy by restoring good jobs to our nation's
workforce -- jobs that pay a living wage. He will not support any trade
agreements that do not advance fair trade, and will only support legislation
that advances human rights and protects the environment.
Before the Iraq war started, Dr. Gill spoke out strongly against the Bush
Administration’s "go it alone" aggressive policies. As the next congressman
from Illinois' fifteenth district, David Gill will make sure that our
government works within the structure of the United Nations and with the
international community to create a more intellectual and rational foreign
policy.
As a congressman, Dr. Gill will protect the rights of all Americans,
regardless of race, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation.
