2010 Primary Endorsements
Jorge Mujica for US Congress, District 3
True progressive populism is uncommon, which is one reason we aren't
making a lot of Congressional endorsements this year. But Jorge
Mujica's candidacy exemplifies it. This is how they told us in school
that democracy should work: People facing a government that doesn't
represent their values and interests, and organizing to replace it.
Mujica's issues -- fairness for immigrants, money for human needs and
not war, universal single-payer health care -- are our issues. But
this is more than just an election campaign. It's a movement, and
we're proud to play some small part in it.
Pat Quinn for Governor of Illinois
Since taking office, Governor Quinn has made some difficult choices,
and we haven't always agreed with him. But he's made a good-faith
effort to clean up the mess left by his predecessor, as well as some
outstanding appointments -- most recently Dr. Quentin Young as the
state's public health advocate.
Mike Boland for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois
Boland has championed efforts at real reform, including state-wide
single-payer health care (bill 311) and fair elections (bill 1324). We
join with IVI-IPO and the Quick 'n Clean Foundation in endorsing this
outstanding legislator for Lieutanant Governor.
Don Kirchenberg for DuPage Forest Preserve board, District Four
We admit to being biased on this one, as Don Kirchenberg has in the
past offered helpful advice to our group. While either of the
Democrats in this race would make a fine Forest Preserve commissioner,
we are impressed by Kirchenberg's environmental activism and his
willingness to speak out when he thinks something could be done better.
